About Dowty Camping Club

Dowty Camping Club was formed in 1962 as a club for employees of the Dowty Group of companies, which specialized in aircraft hydraulics and mining equipment.

The club grew steadily in size until the 1980's when the Dowty Group was broken up and companies sold off.To survive as a club the decision was made by the membership to become autonomous, while still keeping the Dowty name.

Today we have a membership of around 40 units, comprising of tents, caravans and motorcaravans. Some of our members are employees who work for former companies of the Dowty Group,ex or retired employees, and others are drawn mainly from Gloucester,Cheltenham and Tewkesbury areas through friends etc.

We are a friendly club and are members of ACCEO. We strive to promote camping in all its forms and try in particular to encourage the participation of younger members, as we see these as the future of the club.

In general we organize weekend rallies during the year from March until October. We also arrange a holiday rally once a year for a fortnight. During the winter months we arrange various events such as skittles,a Christmas dance and a long weekend away in a hotel by coach, this is to enable us to stay in touch with one another.
